Details
This cartridge’s 140 grain bullet is an improvement over the traditional full metal jacket. As a hollow point boat tail, its solid lead core’s weight is more uniformly distributed, which translates to superior in-flight stability that enhances overall precision. The HPBT’s evenly thick copper jacket similarly improves its balance, and its narrow meplat and tapered base both do a good job of conserving momentum by reducing drag.
Hornady measured this round’s 2,690 fps muzzle velocity with a 24” barrel. At that rate the bullet exhibits a G1 ballistic coefficient of 0.580. If your rifle has 1.5” high sights, you can expect a trajectory that rises 2.05” en route to a 200-yard zero. At 300 yards, drop would be in the ballpark of -8.1”.
The HPBT does have a hollow point, but it’s not intended to deliver terminal expansion – hence this ammo’s unsuitability for taking medium game. But its premium Boxer primers and virgin brass cases do suit it perfectly for all makes and models of 6.5 CM long guns, and also make it reloadable!
