Looking for 22 LR ammo for self-defense? You could choose one of many high-velocity varmint loads, but those aren’t necessarily designed for defense. CCI Uppercut, on the other hand, very much is.
Pay no mind to this round’s seemingly glacial 950 fps muzzle velocity. The 32 grain bullet is “high-velocity” in every sense of the word, and strikes with as much energy as the 22 LR will allow. But since this ammo is specifically designed for semi-automatic pistols, CCI chose to accurately represent it by recording its muzzle velocity with a 4” test barrel.
This round’s bullet is unwaxed, which promotes consistent feeding at all temperatures and minimizes fouling that could lead to jamming. As a jacketed hollow point, the bullet is considerably tougher than a plated or unplated alternative – the reason why it reliably penetrates dense body mass. Just like a larger JHP, the bullet’s jacket is symmetrically skived. This enables it to peel back and yield to rapid expansion, even after lower-velocity impact.
