When a 5.56 lover sees the number “62,” a big, glowing word appears in his mind: “MAGNETIC.” This is because he knows the M855 full metal jacket weighs 62 grains, and contains a steel penetrator tip that precludes it from exercise at many commercial gun ranges.
That’s why this American Quality Ammunition 5.56 is what our English-speaking brothers and sisters refer to as “special.” It is loaded with 62 grain FMJ bullets. Its ballistic performance isn’t entirely unlike that of the military’s M855 load as a result. But those FMJs’ tips are unpainted for good reason. No penetrator tip or other steel component rests within their copper-alloy jackets.
These range loads are made in the USA with brand new components. That includes their brass cases, which a 5.56 lover can instantly tell are annealed. The cases weren’t shined up all nice after they were heat-treated, but that’s solely a matter of cosmetics.
