The pattern is wide enough to ensure good coverage but not too wide (at normal CQB distances) that it becomes ineffective. At even as large a distance as 15 yards, the massive potential for stopping the threat is essentially unmatched out of short barreled pistols chambered for the shotshell.

850 feet per second is a good velocity for penetration at that distance and offers some respite for the punishing recoil of other loads in the category. This is a particularly easy recoiling round given the potency it has.
