But if you really want to demonstrate the 30-06’s ballistic supremacy, then you’ve got to choose the right bullet. Federal Premium did just that when they loaded this round with Hornady’s 178 grain .30 caliber ELD-X.
The ELD-X is a bona fide match bullet. It’s Advanced Manufacturing Process jacket lacks a cannelure to slow it down, and is so impressively concentric that it can reasonably be described as “flawless.” The ELD-X’s Heat Shield polymer tip is specifically designed to reduce drag variability. It also won’t soften and flatten while it contends with aerodynamic friction. The reward? A 0.552 G1 BC, which represents approximately 72% velocity and 52% energy retention at 500 yards.
The ELD-X is a killer to boot. Its robust jacket and alloyed lead core are tethered together by an InterLock ring: steadfast, mechanical protection against component separation. Its Heat Shield also reliably catalyzes expansion at impact well beyond 400 yards!
